Softball Game Preview: Greeneview Rams vs. Fairbanks Panthers

The Greeneview Rams are taking a road trip to challenge the Fairbanks Panthers at 5:00 p.m. on Thursday. The teams are rolling into the game with opposing streaks: Greeneview has struggled recently with three losses in a row, while Fairbanks will arrive with six straight wins.

On Wednesday, Greeneview didn't have quite enough to beat Madison Plains and fell 16-15.

Rylie Battista made the most of her time at bat despite the final result and went 2-for-4 with four RBI, two doubles, and one run. The team also got some help courtesy of Mya Simpson, who scored two runs and stole a base while going 4-for-6.

Meanwhile, Fairbanks hadn't done well against Mechanicsburg recently (they were 2-7 in their previous nine matchups), but they didn't let the past get in their way on Wednesday. The Panthers skirted past the Indians 2-1. For those keeping track at home, that's the closest victory the Panthers have posted since April 24, 2024.

Maddi Sines made a big impact while hitting and pitching. She looked comfortable on the mound, not allowing a single earned run and allowing only two hits while striking out seven over seven innings pitched. That's the most strikeouts she has posted since back in May of 2024. She was also big at the plate, going 1-for-3 with one triple and two RBI. That triple marked the first that she hit this season.

Sines wasn't the only one making solid contact as three players wound up with at least one hit. One of them was Macy Kise, who scored a run while going 1-for-3.

Fairbanks' win was their 14th straight at home dating back to last season, which pushed their record up to 7-1. Those home victories came thanks in part to their pitching effort, having only surrendered 2.8 runs on average over those games. As for Greeneview, their defeat dropped their record down to 5-4.

Greeneview suffered a grim 13-2 defeat to Fairbanks in their previous meeting back in May of 2024. Can the Rams avenge their loss or is history doomed to repeat itself? We'll find out soon enough.
