Basketball Recap: Ri'kiya Mitchell's Big Game Can't Quite Lead Jackson South Side over Collierville

After flying high against Middleton on Tuesday, Jackson South Side came back down to earth. The Hawks fell 54-46 to the Collierville Dragons on Friday.

Jackson South Side's loss came despite a true team effort with many players turning in solid performances. Perhaps the best among them was Ri'Kiya Mitchell, who dropped a double-double with 16 points and 11 boards. Mitchell has become a key player for the Hawks: the team is 2-1 when she posts at least eight rebounds, but 1-2 otherwise. The team also got some help courtesy of Aydison Dilworth, who shot 86% from the field to rack up 13 points and eight boards.

Jekhyra Rodgers was her usual excellent self, going 8-for-14 on her way to 20 points and three steals for Collierville. Rodgers is on a roll when it comes to steals, as she's now grabbed two or more in each of the last eight games she's played dating back to last season. Another player making a difference was Fran Kelly, who posted 14 points and five rebounds.

Jackson South Side has traveled a rocky road recently, having lost three of their last four contests. That's put a noticeable dent in their 3-3 record this season. As for Collierville, the victory made it two in a row for them and bumps their season record up to 6-2.

Jackson South Side wasted no time getting back out on the court and has already played their next matchup, a 53-49 defeat against Lift for Life Academy on the 6th. As for Collierville, they have also already played their next game, a 41-39 loss against University School of Jackson on the 6th.
