Softball Game Preview: Avalon Lancers vs. Big Bear Bears

The Avalon Lancers will square off against the Big Bear Bears at 12:00 p.m. on Saturday. Avalon is looking for their season's first win.

For whatever reason, it's the away team that's had the advantage when Avalon and Southlands Christian meet (four straight games heading into this one) and that held true again on Saturday. Avalon lost 14-1 to Southlands Christian.

Meanwhile, Big Bear gave up the first runs on Wednesday, but they didn't let that get them down. They skirted past West Valley 15-13.

Jordan Gilligan was a standout: she scored two runs while going 2-for-4. The team also got some help courtesy of Emmerson Geary, who went 3-for-4 with three RBI.

Gilligan wasn't the only one working in the hit department: Big Bear kept the outfield on their toes and finished the game with 14 hits. That strong performance was nothing new for the team: they've now got at least eight hits every time they've taken the field this season.

Big Bear's victory bumped their record up to 4-2. As for Avalon, their defeat dropped their record down to 0-5.

Avalon might still be hurting after the 13-2 loss they got from Big Bear when the teams last played back in March of 2024. Can Avalon avenge their defeat or is history doomed to repeat itself? We'll find out soon enough.
