Basketball Game Preview: Orr Spartans vs. Mather Rangers

The Orr Spartans will be taking part in a tournament against the Mather Rangers at 5:00 p.m. on Friday. Orr is strutting in with some offensive muscle as they've averaged 52.8 points per game this season.

Orr is probably headed into the contest with a chip on their shoulder considering Crane Medical just ended the team's 11-game winning streak on Friday. They came up short against the Cougars, falling 63-41. For those keeping track at home, that's the biggest loss the Spartans have suffered since November 21, 2024.

Even though the team lost, they still had their share of impressive performances. One of the best came from Carmani Sharkey, who dropped a double-double on 21 points and ten rebounds. Her evening made it three games in a row in which she has scored at least ten points. The team also got some help courtesy of Nia Crawford, who went 5 of 11 on her way to 11 points along with six rebounds and three steals.

Even though they lost, Orr smashed the offensive glass and finished the game with 21 offensive boards. That strong performance was nothing new for the team: they've now pulled down at least 11 offensive rebounds in three consecutive games.

Meanwhile, even if it wasn't a dominant performance, Mather beat Rickover Naval 41-37 on Friday.

Mather's win bumped their record up to 8-6. As for Orr, their defeat was their first in the conference, dropping their conference record down to 6-1 and their overall record down to 13-2.

Orr took a serious blow against Mather when the teams last played back in November of 2015, falling 38-11. Can Orr avenge their loss or is history doomed to repeat itself? We'll find out soon enough.
