Basketball Recap: Meyersdale Takes a Loss

Meyersdale lost against Turkeyfoot Valley Area back in January of 2024 and unfortunately they wound up with the same result on Thursday. The Meyersdale Red Raiders were beaten by the Turkeyfoot Valley Area Rams 81-43. While losing is never fun, the Red Raiders can't take it too hard given the team's big disadvantage in MaxPreps' Pennsylvania basketball rankings (they are ranked 696th, while the Rams are ranked 226th).

Despite the loss, Meyersdale still got an impressive performance from Ryan Sechler, who almost dropped a double-double on 21 points and nine boards. The dominant performance gave Sechler a new career-high in points. Another player making a difference was Carter Vogt, who posted eight points.

Bryce Nicholson continued his habit of posting crazy stat lines for Turkeyfoot Valley Area, shooting 4-for-7 from deep and dropping a double-double on 35 points and ten steals. Nicholson is crushing it when it comes to steals: he's grabbed at least three every time he's taken the court this season. The team also got some help courtesy of Zack Ryan, who dropped a double-double on 14 points and ten rebounds.

Meyersdale dropped their record down to 3-9 with the defeat, which was their third straight at home. As for Turkeyfoot Valley Area, the win (which was their ninth in a row) raised their record to 11-1.

Meyersdale has already played their next match (against Windber), but no score has been uploaded at the time of writing. Turkeyfoot Valley Area wasted no time getting back out on the court and has already played their next game, a 76-35 loss against Westmont Hilltop on the 13th.
