Basketball Game Preview: Johnston Panthers vs. East Greenwich Avengers

The Johnston Panthers will venture away from home to take on the East Greenwich Avengers at 7:00 p.m. on Tuesday. Both teams took a loss in their last game, so they'll have plenty of motivation to get the 'W'.

Last Friday, Johnston was within striking distance but couldn't close the gap as they fell 41-36 to Mt. Hope.

The loss doesn't tell the whole story though, as several players had good games. One of the most active was Marissa Morsilli, who posted 12 points. Another player making a difference was Annabella Gesauldi, who put up seven points and six rebounds.

Meanwhile, East Greenwich was not able to break out of their rough patch on Monday as the team picked up their fifth straight loss. They took a blow against Moses Brown, falling 63-34. While losing is never fun, the Avengers can't take it too hard given the team's big disadvantage in MaxPreps' Rhode Island basketball rankings (they are ranked 32nd, while the Quakers are ranked first).

East Greenwich's defeat dropped their record down to 2-6. As for Johnston, they have traveled a rocky road recently having lost three of their last four contests, which put a noticeable dent in their 4-6 record this season.

Johnston couldn't quite finish off East Greenwich in their previous matchup back in January of 2021 and fell 47-45. Thankfully for Johnston, Alex Mega (who went 13 of 19 on her way to 39 points in addition to five rebounds and five steals) won't be suiting up this time. Will that be enough to change the final result? There's only one way to find out.
