Softball Recap: Buckeye Trail Comes Up Short

Monday just wasn't the day for Buckeye Trail's offense. They lost 9-0 to the Strasburg-Franklin Tigers on Monday. The Warriors haven't had much luck with the Tigers recently, as the team has come up short the last nine times they've met.

Gwen McElwain spent all seven innings on the mound, and it's clear why: she surrendered just two earned (and seven unearned) runs on seven hits.

On the hitting side, Lindsey Smith made the most of her time at bat despite the final result and went 3-for-4 with one stolen base and one double. That double was her first of the season.

Buckeye Trail's defeat dropped their record down to 3-11. As for Strasburg-Franklin, the victory made it two in a row for them and bumps their season record up to 8-5.

Looking ahead, Buckeye Trail will head out on the road to take on Caldwell at 5:00 p.m. on Tuesday. The Redskins' pitching crew has only allowed 2.8 runs per game this season, so the Warriors' hitters will have their work cut out for them. As for Strasburg-Franklin, they will welcome Dover at 5:00 p.m. on Tuesday. Both teams are headed into the matchup with plenty of momentum (the Tigers have won three straight at home, while the Crimson Tornadoes won six straight on the road), something that'll have to change.
