Basketball Recap: Columbia Central Takes a Loss

Columbia Central was not able to break out of their rough patch on Saturday as the team picked up their sixth straight defeat. They were dealt an 83-49 loss at the hands of the Pope John Paul II Knights. The Lions lost against the Knights in their previous head to head back in December of 2021, too, but the margin this time around was even wider than the 71-60 score last time.

Osby Cavin continued his habit of posting crazy stat lines for Pope John Paul II, going 6 for 8 from beyond the arc on his way to 32 points in addition to six assists and five boards. Those 32 points gave Cavin a new career-high. The team also got some help courtesy of Kamden Days, who made all 9 shots he took to post 23 points and seven rebounds.

Columbia Central's defeat dropped their record down to 2-9. As for Pope John Paul II, the win (which was their fifth in a row) raised their record to 11-1.

Columbia Central will get a bit of extra time to process the loss as their next game is a ways off. They'll take on Summit at 7:30 p.m. on January 3, 2025. Pope John Paul II and Father Ryan will compete for holiday cheer at 4:30 p.m. on Monday. One thing working in Pope John Paul II's favor is that they have posted at least 55 points every time they've taken the court this season.
