Basketball Game Preview: Hope Blue Wave vs. Pilgrim Patriots

Hope hasn't had much luck against Pilgrim recently, but that could start to change on Tuesday. Having just played yesterday, the Hope Blue Wave will head out on the road to face off against the Pilgrim Patriots at 7:00 p.m. Both teams took a loss in their last game, so they'll have plenty of motivation to get the 'W'.

Hope is coming in fresh off a high-stakes matchup with another one of Rhode Island's top teams: Rogers, who was ranked 21st at the time (Hope was ranked 22nd). Hope took a 52-43 hit to the loss column at the hands of Rogers on Monday.

Despite the loss, Hope got top-tier performance from Jorday Johnson, who dropped a double-double on 19 points and 15 boards. Johnson is on a roll when it comes to rebounds, as she's now pulled down eight or more in the last ten games she's played dating back to last season. Another player making a difference was Joharlenys Santana, who posted four points and 15 boards.

Meanwhile, Pilgrim has relied on a stalwart defense averaging 26.29 points allowed per game, but that average took a hit on Friday. They took a hard 57-39 fall against Lincoln School. The Patriots haven't had much luck with the Lynx recently, as the team's come up short the last two times they've met.

Pilgrim's defeat dropped their record down to 11-3. As for Hope, their loss ended a six-game streak of wins at home and dropped them to 9-4.

Hope lost to Pilgrim on the road by a decisive 41-24 margin in their previous meeting back in February of 2022. Can Hope avenge their defeat or is history doomed to repeat itself? We'll find out soon enough.
