Softball Recap: Madison Picks Up Fifth Consecutive Victory

Madison came tearing into Monday's contest with four straight wins (a stretch where they outscored their opponents by an average of 8.5 runs), and they left with even more momentum. They came out on top against the Jefferson Area Falcons by a score of 6-2. That's two games straight that the Blue Streaks have won by exactly four runs.

Kara Mekulsia made a big impact no matter where she played. She looked comfortable on the mound, not allowing a single earned run while striking out 14 over seven innings pitched. She has been consistent for a while: she hasn't tossed less than five strikeouts any time she's pitched this season. She was also big at the plate, getting on base in all four of her plate appearances with two runs.

In other batting news, Natalie Best was excellent, going 2-for-3 with three RBI and one run. Gianna LaMarco was another key player, going 1-for-3 with two runs.

Madison hit smart and finished the game with only one strikeout. They easily outclassed their opponents in that department as Jefferson Area struck out 14 times.

Madison pushed their record up to 9-1 with the victory, which was their sixth straight at home dating back to last season. Those home wins came thanks in part to their pitching effort, having only surrendered 1.2 runs on average over those games. As for Jefferson Area, this is the second loss in a row for them and nudges their season record down to 7-7.

Coincidentally, Madison and Jefferson Area will both be playing Edgewood the next time they take the field. The Falcons will host the Warriors at 5:00 p.m. on Tuesday, while the Blue Streaks will head out to face them at 5:00 p.m. on Wednesday.
