Avon falls despite strong effort from Aniah Smith

Recap: Avon Orioles vs. Upper Arlington Golden Bears

On Monday, Avon came up short against Upper Arlington and fell 61-54. While losing is never fun, Avon can't take it too hard given the team's big disadvantage in MaxPreps's basketball rankings in their respective home states (they are ranked 96th in Indiana, while Upper Arlington is ranked 24th in Ohio).

Despite the loss, Avon still got an impressive performance from Aniah Smith, who scored 22 points along with eight steals and six assists. Smith has been hot recently, having posted two or more steals the last eight times she's played. Another player making a difference was Nevaeh Wren, who scored 14 points.

Avon's loss was their third straight at home, which bumped their record down to 8-10. As for Upper Arlington, the win was the sixth in a row for them, bringing their record for this year to 11-2.

Avon will head out on the road to square off against Cathedral at 7:30 p.m. on Wednesday. Upper Arlington won't have much time to rest: their next match is against Grove City at 7:00 p.m. on January 16th.
