Daeshia Buford commands the offense for Islanders win

Recap: St. John's Islanders vs. Charleston Math & Science Riptide

The St. John's Islanders came into Friday's match having lost three straight, but that streak is now in the rearview. They walked away with a 49-41 victory over Charleston Math & Science on Friday. The victory was just what St. John's needed coming off of a 69-46 defeat in their prior matchup.

St. John's win was the result of several impressive offensive performances. One of the most notable came from Daeshia Buford, who scored 19 points along with six steals. Buford is crushing the steal category: she's posted at least four every time she's taken the court this season. Kaniya Smith was another key contributor, scoring ten points along with eight assists and five rebounds.

Despite the loss, Charleston Math & Science still got an impressive performance from Dalailyn Reed, who dropped a double-double on 24 points and 14 rebounds. As a matter of fact, that's the most points Reed has scored all season. Another player making a difference was Peyton Webb, who scored seven points along with eight rebounds and five steals.

St. John's win bumped their record up to 8-9. As for Charleston Math & Science, they dropped their record down to 2-17 with that defeat, which was their third straight on the road.

St. John's will be playing at home against the Bobcats at 6:30 p.m. on Tuesday. Hopefully Baptist Hill focused on turnovers this week since the team gave up 18 on Friday. As for Charleston Math & Science, they will head out on the road to face off against the Trojans at 6:30 p.m. on Friday. Cross presents a significant challenge as they come into the match much higher ranked than the Riptide in South Carolina (the Trojans are ranked 91st, while the Riptide are ranked 236th).
