Mayville had lost five games straight , but after bumping their record up to 5-7 on Monday that streak is in the rearview. Everything went their way against the Dryden Cardinals as they made off with a 10-1 win. Considering the Wildcats have won four games by more than eight runs this season, Monday's blowout was nothing new.
Luka Campbell made a splash while hitting and pitching. He didn't allow a single earned run and allowed only one hit while striking out six over 5.2 innings pitched. Mayville is 2-1 when Campbell allows two or fewer hits, but 3-6 otherwise. Campbell was also solid in the batter's box, getting on base in three of his four plate appearances with one stolen base and one RBI.
In other batting news, the team relied heavily on Gavin Wager, who went 2-for-4 with two stolen bases, three runs, and one double. He has become a key player for Mayville: the team is 2-1 when he posts at least two runs, but 3-6 otherwise. Another player making a difference was Ian Estrine, who got on base in three of his five plate appearances with two runs.
As for Dryden, they now have a losing record of 4-5. Having soared to a lofty 13 runs in the game before, they couldn't push the score so high this time.
