Football Preview: Seabreeze Sandcrabs vs. Mainland Buccaneers
Seabreeze is 0-10 against Mainland since October of 2014 but things could change on Friday. The Seabreeze Sandcrabs will venture away from home to face off against the Mainland Buccaneers at 7:00 p.m. Hopefully Seabreeze focused on turnovers this week as the team gave up five on Thursday.
Last Thursday, Seabreeze didn't have too much trouble with Pine Ridge as they won 24-6.
Seabreeze found their leader in sophomore Cash Kurz, who made three total tackles and defended four passes in addition to snagging an interception which he returned for a touchdown. Jeremias George also set a new season high mark in rushing yards with 95.
Seabreeze didn't go easy on the quarterback and picked off three passes before the game was over. It was truly a group effort as Logan Smith, Kurz, and Jake Deising picked up one apiece.
Meanwhile, Mainland got themselves on the board against Belleview on Friday, but Belleview never followed suit. They breezed by the Rattlers to the tune of 57-0. That 57 point margin sets a new team best for the Buccaneers this season.
Sebastian Johnson went supernova for Mainland, throwing for 113 yards and five touchdowns while completing 87.5% of his passes.
Seabreeze's win ended a three-game drought at home and bumped them up to 2-5. As for Mainland, the victory was the fourth in a row for them, bringing their record for this year to 4-5.
Seabreeze took a serious blow against Mainland in their previous matchup back in October of 2023, falling 48-14. Can Seabreeze avenge their loss or is history doomed to repeat itself? We'll find out soon enough.
