Two dominant guards in Easton Nash and Kelby Neujahr are getting ready to go toe-to-toe. The Deshler Dragons will face off against the Osceola Bulldogs at 7:15 p.m. on Tuesday. Deshler is strutting in with some offensive muscle as they've averaged 51.2 points per game this season.
Last Friday, Deshler came up short against Lawrence-Nelson and fell 40-33. While the Dragons didn't get the win, they did start the game off strong, beating the Raiders 15-4 in the first quarter.
Deshler's loss shouldn't obscure the performances of Carson Sieber, who posted eight points and nine boards, and Nash, who had 13 points and five rebounds. Sieber is on a roll when it comes to boards, as he's now pulled down nine or more in each of the last three games he's played.
Meanwhile, Osceola suffered their closest defeat since December 14, 2024 on Friday. They fell just short of High Plains by a score of 52-49. The Bulldogs have now taken an 'L' in back-to-back games.
Deshler will need to focus on slowing down Neujahr, one of several Osceola players who made an impact when they last played. He dropped a double-double with 11 points and ten rebounds. Brayden Santos was another key player, going 5-for-8 to rack up 13 points.
Even though they lost, Osceola smashed the offensive glass and finished the game with ten offensive boards. That strong performance was nothing new for the team: they've now pulled down at least ten offensive rebounds in four consecutive contests.
Deshler's loss dropped their record down to 14-8. As for Osceola, their defeat dropped their record down to 13-11.
Rebounding is likely to be a big factor in this contest: Deshler has been crashing the boards this season, having averaged 28.2 boards per game. However, it's not like Osceola struggles in that department as they've been averaging 28.2 rebounds.
