Volleyball Recap: Jefferson's Victory on Friday Extends Winning Streak to Three

Jefferson entered their tilt with Burges on Friday with two consecutive wins but they'll enter their next game with three. They put the hurt on the Mustangs with a sharp 3-0 victory. This was a revenge game for the Silver Foxes: when they faced off against the Mustangs back in September, they had to take a 3-0 loss.

Jefferson never let Burges on the board, but things got pretty close in the third set. The match finished with set scores of 25-19, 25-21, 31-29.

Jaelynn Leverett paced Jefferson's offense, picking up ten kills. Leverett got some help from Jayme Rojas and her 33 assists. Finally, Yazmin May kept Jefferson's defense grounded, leading the team with five blocks.

Defeat or not, Burges got some senior leadership from Emilly Banuelos and Hailey Cordova. Banuelos had 26 digs and two assists, while Cordova had 18 assists and 12 digs. Banuelos has been hot for a while, having posted 14 or more digs the last 11 times she's played. Another player making a difference was Paradieselynn Fuimaono, who had 13 digs and 13 assists.

Jefferson's win bumped their record up to 14-11. As for Burges, they are on a three-game losing streak that has dropped them down to 18-8.

Jefferson wasted no time getting back out on the court and has already played their next match, a 3-0 loss against Chapin on the 7th. As for Burges, they have also already played their next contest, a 3-2 victory against Canutillo on the 7th.
