Basketball Recap: Make It Five in a Row for Nogales

Nogales extended their winning streak to five games thanks to a huge performance from Cecilia Burruel. The Nogales Apaches blew past the Buena Colts 70-28 on Thursday thanks in part to Burruel, who went 7 of 12 from beyond the arc en route to 25 points along with seven boards and seven steals. She is on a roll when it comes to steals, as she's now grabbed two or more in the last seven games she's played.

Another player making a difference was Arlette Munoz, who went 5 for 11 on her way to 11 points in addition to seven rebounds and seven steals. That's the most steals she has posted since back in November of 2024.

Buena's loss came despite strong showings from Kalel Palacios and Taegan Allred. Palacios posted four points and nine boards, while Allred earned four points.

Nogales has been performing incredibly well recently as they've won six of their last seven matches, which provided a nice bump to their 13-7 record this season. The wins came thanks to their offensive performance across that stretch, as they averaged 64.9 points per game. As for Buena, they are on a six-game losing streak that has dropped them down to 5-10.

Nogales will venture away from home to challenge Pueblo at 7:00 p.m. on Wednesday. Nogales knows how to get points on the board -- the team has finished with 55 points or more in their past five games -- so hopefully Pueblo likes a good challenge. Buena has already played their next contest (against Desert View), but no score has been uploaded at the time of writing.
