6A Region 7 Top Player Performances of the Week

Congratulations to this week's top players! We're covering the best performances in games played on Thursday and Friday (using all statistics entered as of the time of writing). Enjoy!

Trey Greenwell Tops All Others This Week

Starting off the list is Decatur's Trey Greenwell, who we judged to be the best player in the league this week. Greenwell made nine total tackles and defended a pass. He got the majority of those receiving yards when he pulled down a pass and took off for a gain of 75 yards.

For the year, Greenwell has averaged 6.1 total tackles per game. That doesn't tell the whole story though: at this point last year, he had one receiving touchdown. This year he is already up to two.

Big Game from Gross As Athens Fell 21-19

While Brogan Gross delivered a dominant performance on Friday, a win just wasn't in the cards for Athens. Nobody could stop Gross as he threw for 201 yards and two touchdowns, and also rushed for 44 yards.

It'll be Battle of the Birds when Golden Eagles faces off against Columbia at 7:00 p.m. on Friday. The last time Gross took on the Eagles, he threw for 154 yards and two touchdowns on perfect 10-for-10 passing. Can he match (or beat) that performance?

Endymion Tyus Makes It Two for Athens

Keeping Gross company is Endymion Tyus, a fellow Athens player. He picked up 81 receiving yards and two touchdowns. He also deserves a shoutout for his performance on D, making three total tackles and defending a pass.

For the season, Tyus has caught 5 touchdowns while averaging 57.8 receiving yards per game.

Cayden Oliver Turns in Season-Best Effort

Sadly, Cayden Oliver posting his best game of the season wasn't enough to lead Decatur over Mae Jemison on Thursday. Oliver wasn't messing around, forcing two fumbles and making 15 total tackles. The matchup was his ninth straight with five or more total tackles dating back to last season.

This year, Oliver has averaged 11.2 total tackles per game. He is looking even better than he did last year: after eight games last season, he was only averaging 5.5 total tackles per game.
