Football Recap: Peninsula Panthers vs. St. Monica Mariners
Peninsula put another one in the bag on Friday to keep their perfect season alive. They strolled past the St. Monica Mariners with points to spare, taking the game 49-34.
Peninsula got their victory on the backs of several key players, but it was Mario Ruggiero out in front who threw for 131 yards and two touchdowns, and also punched in a rushing score. John Young was in the mix too, providing Peninsula with two touchdowns.

Several Mariners players turned in solid performances despite ultimately coming up short. Perhaps the best among those players was Bradley Cassier, who threw for 348 yards and four touchdowns. The dominant performance gave him a new career- in total yards. Another player making a difference was Anthony Mason, who picked up 150 receiving yards and two touchdowns.
Peninsula's win bumped their record up to 3-0. As for St. Monica, their defeat was their first of the season and makes their record 2-1.
Both squads are looking forward to the support of their home crowds in their upcoming games. Peninsula will square off against Compton Early College at 4:00 p.m. on Friday. Hopefully Compton Early College focused on turnovers this week as team gave up four on Friday. As for St. Monica, they will face off against Whittier Christian at 7:00 p.m. on Friday. St. Monica knows how to get points on the board -- the team has finished with 31 point or more in their past three contests -- so hopefully Whittier Christian likes a good challenge.
