Baseball Recap: Glens Falls' Winning Streak Snapped at Four Games

Glens Falls dropped their record down to 15-8-1 on Saturday, which also ended the team's four-game streak of wins. They took a 5-0 hit to the loss column at the hands of the Broadalbin-Perth Patriots. The matchup marked the first time this year in which the Black Bears were not able to get on the board.

As for Broadalbin-Perth, they are on a roll lately: they've won six of their last seven contests. That's provided a nice bump to their 12-9 record this season. The wins came thanks in part to their pitching effort, having only surrendered 3.6 runs on average over those games.

For Broadalbin-Perth's part, Blake Shields made a big impact no matter where he played. He didn't allow a single earned run and allowed only one hit while striking out eight over 6.1 innings pitched. Shields has been nothing but reliable on the mound: he hasn't given up more than two hits in three consecutive appearances. He was also big at the plate, going 2-for-4 with two runs and one double. He is becoming a predictor of Broadalbin-Perth's success: when he posts at least two runs the team is undefeated (and 7-9 when he doesn't).

Shields wasn't the only one making solid contact as two players wound up with at least one hit. One of them was Riley Fenton, who went 1-for-2 with one stolen base and one RBI.

As of now, neither Glens Falls nor Broadalbin-Perth have any future games scheduled.
