Football Recap: Elkin Takes a Loss + How To Watch

Friday just wasn't the day for Elkin's offense. They had to suffer through a 55-0 loss at the hands of the Starmount Rams. The loss continues a trend for the Buckin' Elks in their meetings with the Rams: they've now lost five in a row.

Deuce Best was his usual excellent self, throwing for 188 yards and three TDs while completing 72.7% of his passes, and also rushing for 31 yards and a pair of touchdowns for Starmount. Those three passing touchdowns gave Best a new career-high. Another player making a difference was Jymir Billips, who rushed for 175 yards on only 14 carries.

Elkin's defeat dropped their record down to 2-2. As for Starmount, they pushed their record up to 3-1 with the victory, which was their sixth straight at home dating back to last season.

Coming up, Elkin will square off against Ashe County at 7:30 p.m. on Friday. The Buckin' Elks will be up against the Huskies' rather soft defense (which has allowed 38 points per contest), so fans could be in store for a big offensive performance. As for Starmount, they will face off against Alleghany at 7:30 p.m. on Friday. The Trojans' defense has only allowed 13.8 points per game this season, so the Rams' offense will have their work cut out for them.
