Softball Recap: Broughton Wins Going Away Against Sanderson

Broughton won the last time they faced Sanderson and things went their way on Thursday too. Broughton put the hurt on Sanderson with a sharp 15-2 win. The Capitals might be getting used to big wins seeing as the team has won six games by ten runs or more this season.

Adeline Gambrell looked comfortable as she tossed one inning while giving up no earned runs or hits.

At the plate, Lucy Bertram and Harper Smith did most of the damage at the plate: Bertram went 2-for-4 with one home run, two stolen bases, and four RBI, while Smith went 2-for-3 with one home run, three RBI, and two runs. Those three RBI gave Smith a new career-high. Daphne Hall was another key player, scoring two runs and stealing a base while going 1-for-3.

Broughton lost a few balls and finished the game with two home runs. They are a perfect 5-0 when they post two or more home runs.

Broughton has been performing well recently as they've won five of their last six contests. That's provided a nice bump to their 7-4 record this season. The team dominated over that stretch too, winning by an average of 14.6 runs. Sanderson's loss was their third straight at home, which dropped their record down to 0-8.

Broughton and Sanderson will both get a bit of extra prep time before their next matchups. The next time Broughton sees the field they'll take on Cardinal Gibbons at 3:00 p.m. on April 8. As for Sanderson, their break will end when they face Enloe at 4:00 p.m. on April 8.
