Softball Recap: Alhambra Wins Going Away Against Carl Hayden Community

After only two runs in their last game, Alhambra made sure to put some runs up on the board against Carl Hayden Community on Monday. The Lions put the hurt on the Falcons with a sharp 15-5 victory. The win continues a trend for the Lions in their matchups with the Falcons: they've now won six in a row.

Aliyah Carranza spent all six innings played on the mound, and it's clear why: she surrendered five earned runs on six hits and racked up 11 Ks. She has been consistent : she hasn't tossed less than seven strikeouts in five consecutive appearances.

On the hitting side, Alhambra got a massive performance out of Deidrea Tree, who scored three runs and stole two bases while going 4-for-5. The dominant performance also gave Tree a new career-high in triples (two). Alondra Mercado was another key player, going 2-for-3 with one home run, five RBI, and two runs.

Tree wasn't the only one making solid contact: Alhambra kept the outfield on their toes and finished the game with 15 hits. That's a new trend for the Lions: they were averaging 3.6 hits per game earlier this season, but in their last 15 matchups they've averaged 12.2.

Alhambra's victory bumped their record up to 4-9. As for Carl Hayden Community, their loss dropped their record down to 5-10.

Alhambra will have a chance to go back-to-back against the Falcons: the pair's next game is a rematch scheduled at 4:00 p.m. on Wednesday.
