Basketball Recap: Huntington North Takes a Loss

After flying high against Fort Wayne Canterbury last Wednesday, Huntington North came back down to earth. The Huntington North Vikings fell 65-53 to the Kokomo Wildkats on Friday. The loss continues a trend for the Vikings in their matchups with the Wildkats: they've now lost four in a row.

When it comes to explaining why Huntington North lost, don't look at Ethan Zahn. Despite the final result, he shot 41% from the field on his way to 23 points and seven boards. The team also got some help courtesy of Grant Campbell, who posted four points and nine rebounds.

Kokomo got their victory on the backs of several key players, but it was Zion Bellamy out in front who went 7-for-13 en route to 18 points along with five assists and three steals. Bellamy has been hot, having posted 18 or more points the last five times he's played. D.J. Nash was another key player, almost dropping a double-double with 14 points and nine boards.

Huntington North's defeat dropped their record down to 10-13. As for Kokomo, their record now sits at 16-7.

The two teams are set to take part in some playoff action in their next matches. Huntington North will challenge Homestead at 6:00 p.m. on Friday. As for Kokomo, they will square off against McCutcheon at 7:30 p.m. on March 7th. One thing working in McCutcheon's favor is that they have posted at least 55 points in their last four games.
