Baseball Recap: Alcoa's Luck Takes a Turn for the Worse on Friday

It was a good run, but Alcoa unfortunately witnessed the end of their five-game winning streak on Friday. They fell just short of the Sweetwater Wildcats by a score of 7-5. For those keeping track at home, that's the closest loss the Tornadoes have suffered since March 8th.

Alcoa got a good showing from Josh Simpson, who pitched one inning while giving up no earned runs or hits.

At the plate, Aden Orrick was cooking despite his team's loss, scoring two runs and stealing a base while getting on base in three of his four plate appearances. Another player making a difference was Myles Cox, who scored two runs and stole a base while going 2-for-4.

Alcoa's defeat dropped their record down to 11-3. As for Sweetwater, the victory was the eighth in a row for them, bringing their record up to 10-3.

Both teams are looking forward to the support of their home crowds in their upcoming games. Alcoa will take on Oneida at 5:30 p.m. on Monday. Oneida will roll in looking for their fifth straight win, something Alcoa surely won't give up without a fight. As for Sweetwater, they will face off against Maryville Christian at 3:30 p.m. on Saturday. Maryville Christian's pitching crew has only allowed 4.1 runs per game this season, so Sweetwater's hitters will have their work cut out for them.
