Softball Recap: Manchester Regional Takes a Loss

Manchester Regional had lost four straight on the road, but on Wednesday they dropped down to 3-11 to make it five. They came up short against the Cresskill Cougars, falling 18-0. The game marked the first time this year in which the Falcons were not able to get on the board.

As for Cresskill, they have been performing well recently as they've won ten of their last 13 matchups. That's provided a nice bump to their 16-6 record this season. The wins came thanks in part to their hitting performance across that stretch, as they averaged 10.8 runs over those games.

For Cresskill's part, Sophia Coleman was a major factor no matter where she played. She didn't allow a single earned run and allowed only one hit while striking out eight over four innings pitched. Coleman has been nothing but reliable on the mound: she hasn't given up more than one walk any time she's pitched this season. She was also solid in the batter's box, getting on base in three of her four plate appearances with four stolen bases and one run. Those four stolen bases gave her a new career-high.

In other batting news, Cresskill got a massive performance out of Brianna Depalo, who went a perfect 3-for-3 with one home run, two stolen bases, and three runs. That home run marked the first that Depalo has launched this season. Another player making a difference was Katie Kim, who got on base in all four of her plate appearances with one home run, two stolen bases, and two runs.

Coming up, Manchester Regional will face off against Secaucus at 4:00 p.m. on Friday. As for Cresskill, they will be playing in front of their home fans against Bergen Charter at 4:15 p.m. on Thursday.
