Softball Recap: Grainger's Winning Streak Snapped at Five Games

It was a good run, but Grainger unfortunately witnessed the end of their five-game winning streak on Monday. They fell just short of the Union County Patriots by a score of 5-4. Unfortunately, that's the second time they've come up short against the Patriots this season, as they also lost their prior matchup 5-4 back in March.

McKinley Mills and Kaylee Sturgill stepped up to the plate in a big way. Mills went 1-for-2 with one triple, one run, and one RBI, while Sturgill went 2-for-3 with one stolen base, two RBI, and one double. That triple marked the first that Mills hit this season. Another player making a difference was Amanda Kledzik, who scored a run and stole a base while going 1-for-3.

Grainger's defeat dropped their record down to 9-3. As for Union County, their win was their fourth straight on the road, which pushed their record up to 11-6.

Both teams are looking forward to the support of their home crowds in their upcoming games. Grainger will host Greeneville at 5:30 p.m. on Tuesday. The Grizzlies' pitchers better be ready for this one: the Greene Devils have averaged an impressive 8.3 runs per game this season. As for Union County, they will look to defend their home field on Thursday against Gibbs at 6:00 p.m.
