Volleyball Recap: Brynley Nielson and Allie Mangum Secure Win for Payson

Payson hadn't done well against Spanish Fork recently (they were 0-9 in their previous nine matchups), but they didn't let the past get in their way on Tuesday. The Lions came out on top in a nail-biter against the Dons, sneaking past 3-2. This was a revenge game for the Lions: when they faced off against the Dons on September 4th, they had to take a 3-0 defeat.

Payson took Spanish Fork into a fifth set where they got it done with a four-point win. The final score came out to 27-25, 25-19, 21-25, 18-25, 15-11.

Payson was led to victory by Allie Mangum and Brynley Nielson. Mangum had 13 digs and two aces, while Nielson had 41 digs and two assists. Those 41 digs gave Nielson a new career-high.

Payson is on a roll lately: they've won four of their last five contests. That's provided a nice bump to their 12-10 record this season. As for Spanish Fork, they have been struggling recently as they've lost three of their last four matchups. That's put a noticeable dent in their 16-7 record this season.

We've got plenty of inter-region action coming up soon. Payson is set to face off against their familiar foe Timpview at 6:30 p.m. on Thursday. Meanwhile, Spanish Fork will challenge rival Springville at 6:30 p.m. on Thursday.
