Basketball Recap: Abel Villa and Armando Saenz Secure Win for Memphis

Memphis was handed a 23-point defeat in their previous outing, but that didn't affect their clutch gene on Tuesday. They skirted past the Highland Park Hornets 54-51. For the Cyclones, this counts as revenge for the 72-56 victory the Hornets walked away with the last time they faced one another back in November of 2023.

Memphis was led to victory by Armando Saenz and Abel Villa. Saenz dropped a double-double on 21 points and 12 rebounds, while Villa went 7 of 13 on his way to 20 points. The dominant performance gave Saenz a new career-high in boards.

Memphis is on a roll lately: they've won seven of their last nine games, which provided a nice bump to their 11-5 record this season. As for Highland Park, they are on a four-game losing streak that has dropped them down to 9-7.

Coincidentally, both will both be playing Clarendon the next time they take the court. Highland Park will head out to face Clarendon at 8:00 p.m. on Friday, while Memphis will host them at 7:30 p.m. on January 7th.
