Basketball Recap: Burke County Bears vs. Thomson Bulldogs
After flying high against Glenn Hills last Tuesday, Burke County came back down to earth. The Burke County Bears were beaten by the Thomson Bulldogs 61-34 on Saturday. The matchup marked the Bears' lowest-scoring game so far this season.
Despite the loss, Burke County saw an underclassman step up: sophomore Londyn Williams went 6 for 10 on her way to 14 points in addition to eight rebounds and five steals. Williams is becoming a predictor of Burke County's success: when she posts at least three steals the team is 4-1 (and 2-3 when she doesn't). The team also got some help courtesy of Imari Free, who posted five points and five boards.
Burke County's defeat ended a seven-game streak of wins at home dating back to last season and dropped them to 6-4. As for Thomson, the win (which was their sixth in a row) raised their record to 15-1.
Burke County will venture away from home to square off against Josey at 6:00 p.m. on Tuesday. Josey is on a five-game streak of home wins, Burke County a three-game streak of away wins -- so someone will have to leave a streak behind on the court. As for Thomson, they will welcome Glenn Hills at 6:00 p.m. on Tuesday. One thing working in Thomson's favor is that they have posted at least 55 points in their last four contests.
