Basketball Game Preview: Sullivan County Griffins vs. Sayre Redskins

The Sullivan County Griffins are taking a road trip to take on the Sayre Redskins at 7:15 p.m. on Monday. Expect the scorekeeper to be kept busy: if their previous games are any indication, both will really light up the scoreboard.

Sullivan County took a loss when they played away from home on Tuesday, but their home fans gave them all the motivation they needed on Friday. They narrowly escaped with a win as the team sidled past Bucktail 59-56. The victory was some much needed relief for the Griffins as it spelled an end to their four-game losing streak.

Meanwhile, Sayre entered their tilt with Canton on Saturday with four consecutive wins but they'll enter their next game with five. Everything went their way against the Warriors as they made off with a 57-33 win. The matchup was pretty much decided by the half, when the score had already reached 57-33.

Sayre's win came from a few key players Sullivan County will need to keep an eye on. One of the most notable was Zacharey Senese, who went 6 of 9 from beyond the arc on his way to 22 points in addition to five assists and four steals. The team also got some help courtesy of Hudson Trump, who dropped a double-double on 11 points and 12 boards.

Sayre pushed their record up to 11-3 with the victory, which was their fourth straight on the road. Those victories came thanks to their offensive performance across that stretch, as they averaged 65.0 points per game. As for Sullivan County, their win bumped their record up to 8-6.

Sullivan County beat Sayre 44-36 in their previous meeting back in January of 2017. Will Sullivan County repeat their success, or does Sayre have a new game plan this time around? We'll find out soon enough.
