Basketball Recap: Thornton Wildcats vs. Crete-Monee Warriors
Thornton was not able to break out of their rough patch on Friday as the team picked up their third straight loss. They fell 48-39 to the Crete-Monee Warriors. While losing is never fun, the Wildcats can't take it too hard given the team's big disadvantage in MaxPreps' Illinois basketball rankings (they are ranked 262nd, while the Warriors are ranked 109th).

Despite the defeat, Thornton saw an underclassman step up: sophomore Jeremy Blanco-Rios went 6 for 12 to rack up 17 points and five boards. Blanco-Rios is also on a roll when it comes to shooting accuracy, as he's posted one of at least 45% in the last five games he's played. Another player making a difference was Deandre Higgs, who posted 12 points.
Thornton's loss dropped their record down to 8-16. As for Crete-Monee, their win bumped their record up to 18-10.
Looking ahead, Thornton won't have much time to rest: their next game is against Lincoln at 3:00 p.m. on Saturday. Lincoln has been getting the ball to fall more lately as they've increased their point totals each of their last three games. As for Crete-Monee, they will face off against Rich Township at 6:30 p.m. on February 14th.
