Football Recap: Vacaville Falls to Atwater in First Game of Season + How To Watch

Vacaville unfortunately couldn't capitalize on their home-field advantage in their season opener. They were just a hair shy of victory on Friday and fell 65-64 to the Atwater Falcons. The Bulldogs were up 15-0 in the first quarter but couldn't hold on to the lead.

Vacaville's defeat came despite a true team effort from the offense with many players turning in solid performances. Perhaps the best among them was Rome Griego, who rushed for 150 yards and one TD, and also picked up 136 receiving yards and one touchdown. Griego was no stranger to the big play, turning on the jets for a run that went for 64 yards. Brendan Jackson was another key passer, throwing for 316 yards and four TDs while completing 77.3% of his passes.

Atwater had a senior duo take command as Ali Banks Jr threw for 466 yards and seven touchdowns while completing 71.9% of his passes and Sylas Austin picked up 323 receiving yards and five scores.

Coming up, Vacaville is packing up and heading out on the road for their first away game of the season: they will take on West Park at 7:15 p.m. on Friday. As for Atwater, they will be defending their home field for the first time this season when they go up against Hughson at 7:00 p.m. on Friday.
