Softball Recap: Millington Starts Season with Win Against Brown City

Millington had to travel to play their first game of the season, but the final result was worth the trip. They put the hurt on the Brown City Green Devils with a sharp 12-5 victory on Wednesday. That's more bragging rights for the Cardinals, who also won the pair's last head-to-head.

Ashlyn Bentoski was a major factor no matter where she played. On the mound, she struck out 11 batters over seven innings while giving up three earned (and two unearned) runs off five hits. Bentoski was also big at the plate, going 3-for-4 with three RBI and one double.

In other batting news, the team relied heavily on Morgan Matusik, who scored two runs while getting on base in three of her five plate appearances. Lilly Damm was another key player, scoring two runs while going 2-for-5.

Millington kept the outfield on their toes and finished the game with 13 hits. They easily outclassed their opponents in that department as Brown City only managed six hits.

Looking ahead, Millington will challenge Bad Axe at 4:00 p.m. on Friday. As for Brown City, they will face off against Caro at 5:30 p.m. on Monday.
