Softball Recap: Emerson Sets Scoring Season-High Against Heritage

Winning is always nice, but doing so behind a season-high score is even better (just ask Emerson). They blew past the Heritage Coyotes 27-1 on Saturday. The Mavericks might be getting used to big wins seeing as the team has won seven contests by nine runs or more this season.

Madison Fletcher was a major factor while hitting and pitching. She tossed three innings while giving up no earned runs off one hit. What's more, she gave up only zero earned runs, the fewest she's had since back in April of 2024. She was also stellar in the batter's box, scoring three runs and stealing a base while getting on base in all four of her plate appearances. That's the most runs she has posted since back in March of 2024.

In other batting news, the team relied heavily on Alexis Maijala, who scored four runs and stole three bases while going 3-for-4. Those four runs gave her a new career-high. Gianna Lipsky was another key player, scoring three runs and stealing a base while going 2-for-2.

Emerson kept the outfield on their toes and finished the game with 14 hits. That strong performance was nothing new for the team: they've now got at least ten hits in seven consecutive matchups.

Emerson's win was their fifth straight on the road, which pushed their record up to 12-6. The victories came thanks in part to their hitting performance across that stretch, as they averaged 12.0 runs over those games. As for Heritage, they are on a 20-game losing streak (dating back to last season) that has dropped them down to 0-13.

Looking ahead, Emerson will square off against Frisco at 6:00 p.m. on Tuesday. Frisco has struggled to contain batters this season (they've allowed 7.33 runs per game on average), something Emerson will no doubt try to take advantage of. As for Heritage, they will head out on the road to challenge Independence at 6:00 p.m. on Tuesday.
