Baseball Recap: Castlewood Wins Going Away Against Jenkins

Castlewood never let their opponents score on Monday. They were the clear victors by a 15-0 margin over the Jenkins Cavaliers. The Blue Devils might be getting used to big wins seeing as the team has won seven games by eight runs or more this season.

Jasper Salyers made a splash while hitting and pitching. On the mound, he struck out six batters over three innings while giving up no earned runs or hits (and not a single walk). He has been consistent recently: he hasn't given up more than one hit in four consecutive appearances. He was also solid in the batter's box, going 1-for-3 with three RBI. Those three RBI gave him a new career-high.

In other batting news, Brayden Houchins was incredible, going 2-for-3 with six RBI, two runs, and one triple. He has become a key player for Castlewood: the team is undefeated when he posts at least three RBI, but 4-6 otherwise. Another player making a difference was Aden Phillips, who got on base in all four of his plate appearances with three runs, one stolen base, and one RBI.

Castlewood always had someone on base and finished the game having posted an OBP of .594. That's the best OBP they've posted all season.

Castlewood has been performing well recently as they've won five of their last six matchups. That's provided a nice bump to their 7-6 record this season. Those victories came thanks in part to their pitching effort, having only surrendered 2.8 runs on average over those games. As for Jenkins, they are on a six-game losing streak that has dropped them down to 2-13.

Both teams are looking forward to the support of their home crowds in their upcoming games. Castlewood will challenge J.I. Burton at 5:00 p.m. on Tuesday. As for Jenkins, they will face off against Mingo Central at 5:30 p.m. on Wednesday.
