Football Recap: Ventura Skates Past Royal with Ease

Ventura won the last time they faced Royal and things went their way on Friday too. The Cougars claimed a resounding 44-9 win over the Highlanders. The game was pretty much decided by the half, when the score had already reached 30-3.

Ventura had a senior duo take command as Derek Garcia threw for 352 yards and six touchdowns while completing 84.6% of his passes and Jack Cunningham picked up 200 receiving yards and three TDs. Cunningham's receiving production has been exceptional as that marked his seventh straight game with at least 111 receiving yards.

Wins are hard to come by when you can't run the rock, something Ventura proved: they limited Royal to a paltry 3.3 yards per carry. The team can thank Jordan Butcher for the heroic effort on defense: he. That's the most yards per carry they've posted since back in August.

Ventura's defense didn't let the opposing QB, get away unscathed either: they got into the backfield for three sacks. In fact, those sacks all came courtesy of defensive juggernaut Nathan Radwich. He also set a new season-high mark in total tackles with ten.

The victory was the third in a row for Ventura, bringing their record up to 6-2. The wins came thanks in part to their offensive performance across that stretch, as they averaged 46.7 points over those games. As for Royal, their defeat dropped their record down to 3-5.

Both teams are looking forward to the support of their home crowds in their upcoming games. Ventura will square off against Oak Park at 7:00 p.m. on Friday. That contest will pit two of the most dominant signal callers against one another: Garcia and Grayson Auzat. As for Royal, they will face off against Moorpark at 7:00 p.m. on Friday. The Highlanders' defense better be ready for this one: the Musketeers have averaged an impressive 27 points per game this season.
