Softball Preview: Rampart Rams vs. Liberty Lancers
The Rampart Rams will challenge the Liberty Lancers at 3:30 p.m. on Tuesday. Rampart is no doubt hoping to put an end to an eight-game streak of away losses.
On Saturday, Rampart didn't have quite enough to beat Pueblo Centennial and fell 6-5.
Meanwhile, Liberty and Doherty met for a duel on Thursday where Liberty prevailed. Everything went Liberty's way against Doherty as Liberty made off with a 19-6 victory. The Lancers might be getting used to big wins seeing as the team has won eight games by nine runs or more this season.
Layla North made a splash no matter where she played. She looked comfortable on the mound, striking out eight batters over six innings while giving up three earned (and three unearned) runs off seven hits. North was also solid in the batter's box, going 3-for-4 with four RBI.
In other batting news, Liberty got a massive performance out of Grace Joiner, who scored three runs and stole two bases while going 3-for-5. Terika Rubiero was another key player, scoring two runs and stealing two bases while going 3-for-5.
Perhaps unsurprisingly given the score, Liberty kept the outfield on their toes and finished the game with 19 hits. That's the most hits they've posted since back in September of 2023.
Rampart's loss dropped their record down to 5-15. As for Liberty, they have been performing well recently as they've won 11 of their last 14 contests, which provided a nice bump to their 12-7 record this season.
Rampart came up short against Liberty when the teams last played back in September, falling 16-11. Can Rampart avenge their defeat or is history doomed to repeat itself? We'll find out soon enough.
