Baseball Game Preview: Raymond Rangers vs. McComb Tigers

The Raymond Rangers will head out on the road to take on the McComb Tigers at 5:00 p.m. on Tuesday. Raymond has given up an average of 10.7 runs per game this season, but Tuesday's game will give them a chance to turn things around.

Raymond came up short against Lawrence County on Friday, falling 13-1. The defeat continues a trend for the Rangers in their meetings with the Cougars: they've now lost nine in a row.

Meanwhile, McComb was not able to break out of their rough patch on Friday as the team picked up their fifth straight loss. They were two runs away from ending the streak, but they lost an 11-9 heartbreaker at the hands of Richland. For those keeping track at home, that's the closest defeat the Tigers have suffered against the Rangers since March 8, 2019.

Martavious Huff made the most of his time at bat despite the final result and went a perfect 3-for-3 with four stolen bases. Kevin Quinn was another key player, scoring a run and stealing two bases while getting on base in three of his four plate appearances.

Huff wasn't the only one working in the hit department: McComb kept the outfield on their toes and finished the game with 14 hits. That's the most hits they've posted since back in March of 2024.

Raymond's loss dropped their record down to 3-11. As for McComb, their defeat dropped their record down to 1-7.

Tuesday's game might come down to which pitcher can control the ball better. Raymond has hit smart this season, having averaged an OBP of .454. However, it's not like McComb struggles in that department as they've averaged .443. With both teams so capable at the plate, fans should be ready for an impressive hitting performance.

Everything went Raymond's way against McComb in their previous meeting last Friday, as Raymond made off with a 17-7 victory. The rematch might be a little tougher for Raymond since the squad won't have the home-field advantage this time around. We'll see if the change in venue makes a difference.
