Baseball Recap: John Paul II Catholic Snags Fifth Win in Last Six Games

John Paul II Catholic had to skate by with only a two-run margin when they last took the field, which might have inspired the 17-run drubbing they dealt North East Carolina Prep on Wednesday. The Saints never let the Husky get on the board and left with a 17-0 victory. The Saints not only won on Wednesday, but they posted their biggest win since March 27th (when they won 20-0).

Drew Lysaght made a big impact while hitting and pitching. He didn't allow a single earned run while striking out eight over five innings pitched. Those eight strikeouts gave him a new career-high. He was also big at the plate, going 3-for-4 with two RBI.

In other batting news, James Donofrio was incredible, getting on base in all five of his plate appearances with three RBI, two runs, and one stolen base. That's the most RBI he has posted since back in March of 2024. Max Mason was another key player, getting on base in four of his five plate appearances with two runs, one stolen base, and two RBI.

John Paul II Catholic was getting hits left and right and finished the game having posted a batting average of .400. They are a perfect 7-0 when they post a batting average of .375 or better.

John Paul II Catholic is on a roll lately: they've won five of their last six games. That's provided a nice bump to their 13-8 record this season. The wins came thanks in part to their hitting performance across that stretch, as they averaged 8.5 runs over those games. As for North East Carolina Prep, they have traveled a rocky road recently, having lost nine of their last ten matches. That's put a noticeable dent in their 2-16 record this season.
