Softball Game Preview: Wheeling Wildcats vs. Waukegan Bulldogs

The Wheeling Wildcats will head out to square off against the Waukegan Bulldogs at 4:45 p.m. on Thursday. Given that the two teams suffered a loss in their last games, they both have a little extra motivation heading into this contest.

It was a proper cat-fight when Wheeling duked it out with Elmwood Park on Monday. The Wildcats fell 12-9 to the Tigers.

Viansa Pollina made the most of her time at bat despite the final result and scored three runs and stole two bases while going 3-for-4. Another player making a difference was Caitlyn Fitzgerald, who went 1-for-4 with three RBI and one double.

Meanwhile, Waukegan was not able to break out of their rough patch two weeks ago as the team picked up their fourth straight defeat dating back to last season. They came up short against Maine East, falling 16-2. For those keeping track at home, that's the biggest loss the Bulldogs have suffered against the Blue Demons since March 26, 2016.

Wheeling dropped their record down to 0-2 with the defeat, which was their sixth straight on the road dating back to last season. As for Waukegan, their loss dropped their record down to 0-3.

Wheeling took their win against Waukegan when the teams last played back in April of 2024 by a conclusive 12-2 score. The rematch might be a little tougher for the Wildcats since the team won't have the home-field advantage this time around. We'll see if the change in venue makes a difference.
