Basketball Game Preview: Denver Academy Mustangs vs. Clear Creek Golddiggers

Denver Academy is 0-6 against Clear Creek since February of 2019 but things could change on Thursday. The Denver Academy Mustangs will be playing at home against the Clear Creek Golddiggers at 5:30 p.m. Keep an eye on the score for this one: the two teams posted some lofty point totals in their previous games.

Denver Academy is headed into Thursday's match looking for a big change in momentum after dropping their fifth straight game on Thursday. They were two points away from ending the streak, but they lost a 69-67 heartbreaker at the hands of Union Colony Prep. Despite running the score up even higher than they did in their prior game last Tuesday (57), the Mustangs still had to take the loss.

Despite the loss, Denver Academy saw an underclassman step up: sophomore Riley Allen on his way to 28 points and six assists. With that strong performance, Allen is now averaging an impressive 15.2 points per game. Another player making a difference was Chris Janssen, who posted 13 points and six boards.

Meanwhile, winning is always nice, but doing so behind a season-high score is even better (just ask Clear Creek). They claimed a resounding 72-30 victory over Gilpin County. The contest was pretty much decided by the half, when the score had already reached 42-14.

Clear Creek's win bumped their record up to 6-15. As for Denver Academy, their defeat dropped their record down to 7-13.

Denver Academy came up short against Clear Creek in their previous matchup back in January, falling 60-51. A big factor in that loss was the dominant performance of Clear Creek's Zephyrus Schuessler, who almost dropped a double-double with 25 points and nine rebounds.
