Softball Game Preview: Evansville Memorial Tigers vs. Castle Knights

Evansville Memorial hasn't had much luck against Castle recently, but that could start to change on Tuesday. The Tigers will be playing at home against the Knights at 5:00 p.m. Evansville Memorial is coming into the contest hot, having won their last five games.

Evansville Memorial will bounce into Tuesday's game after beating Evansville North, who they had gone 0-9 against in their nine prior meetings. The Tigers walked away with a 4-1 victory over the Huskies on Saturday.

Brianna Canaan spent all seven innings on the mound, and it's clear why: she surrendered only one earned run on four hits and racked up 14 Ks. She has been consistent: she hasn't tossed less than five strikeouts in six consecutive appearances.

At the plate, Evansville Memorial saw five different players step up and record at least one hit. One of them was Annie Blackburn, who went 2-for-4 with one run.

Meanwhile, Castle lost 10-4 to Jasper on Saturday.

Maddie Rose made the most of her time at bat despite the final result and went 2-for-3 with one home run and two RBI. Emma Bruggenschmidt was another, getting on base in three of her four plate appearances with one home run and two runs.

Castle's defeat was their first in the conference, dropping their conference record down to 4-1 and their overall record down to 7-11. As for Evansville Memorial, their win bumped their record up to 9-5.

Castle's hitters will have their work cut out for them on Tuesday. Evansville Memorial has been retiring batters left and right this season, having averaged 7.4 strikeouts per game.
