League recap: Gomolka races to league-leading run for Hamburg

Section 6 A - South recap November 5, 2013

Hamburg's Mitch Gomolka recorded the longest rushing play in Section 6 A - South this season in his game against North Tonawanda last week. Gomolka ran for 83 yards on the play and finished with 111 on the day as his team lost to the Lumberjacks.

South Park/Middle Early College scaled the state rankings by moving to 102 from 135 this week, the biggest jump in the league. South Park/Middle Early College climbed the ranks as a result of defeating Lockport 48-14.

Hamburg's offense was unstoppable this week, as it produced the league's top passer, rusher and receiver. Alex Suchan threw for 238 and 2 touchdowns and Brendan Ryan had 92 yards receiving. On the ground Gomolka contributed 111 yards. Bryce Hite helped Hamburg's passing attack out by catching 2 balls for 85 yards.

He went 8-22 with 0 interceptions.

Tosh Johnson was a key player and the best on defense this week as Pat Cauley's team fell to North Tonawanda. The 5-foot-9 junior recorded 1 fumble.

Gomolka was the most successful running back in the league this week. Mark Myles also contributed to the rushing game with 44 yards on the ground.

The Bulldogs' Suchan and Ryan have formed a dream team this season, leading Section 6 A - South in both passing and receiving yards. 5-11 quarterback Suchan has thrown for 1,016 yards this season, while Ryan has 18 catches for 347 yards. Brad Achman from Iroquois leads the league in rushing with 771 yards.

South Park/Middle Early College led the league in scoring this week by notching 48 points on the Lions.
