Softball Recap: Eminence Comes Up Short

Eminence came into this matchup off a tough 12-run defeat last Saturday. This time they kept things ultra-competitive, but unfortunately the final result was the same. They fell just short of the Bethesda Christian Patriots by a score of 4-2 on Monday. For those keeping track at home, that's the closest loss the Eels have suffered against the Patriots since May 22, 2017.

Sophia Saucerman was huge while hitting and pitching even without the win. On the mound, she struck out six batters over six innings while giving up just two earned (and two unearned) runs off five hits (and only one walk). She has been consistent recently: she hasn't given up more than two walks any time she's pitched this season. She was also big at the plate, going 2-for-4 with two doubles and one RBI.

Saucerman wasn't the only one making solid contact as six players wound up with at least one hit. One of them was Khloee Kirk, who scored a run and stole a base while going 1-for-4. Kirk has been hot recently, having posted at least one stolen base the last three times she's played. Marriah Hamblen was another, scoring a run while going 2-for-3.

This is the second loss in a row for Eminence and nudges their season record down to 1-3. As for Bethesda Christian, their win (their first of the season) made their record 1-4.

Eminence and Bethesda Christian will both get their first taste of in-conference action in their upcoming games. The Eels will square off against rival Irvington Preparatory Academy at 5:30 p.m. on Tuesday. Meanwhile, Bethesda Christian is set to face off against their familiar foe Greenwood Christian Academy at 5:30 p.m. on Wednesday.
