Basketball Game Preview: Oak Grove Grizzlies vs. Foard Tigers

The Oak Grove Grizzlies will challenge the Foard Tigers at 6:00 p.m. on Tuesday. Oak Grove is coming into the game hot, having won their last 12 games.

Last Tuesday, Oak Grove was fully in charge, breezing past Ledford 62-33. The Grizzlies have made a habit of sweeping their opponents off the court, having now won 12 matches by 22 points or more this season.

Oak Grove found their leader in sophomore Victoria Lockamy, who on her way to 25 points in addition to six assists and three steals. As a matter of fact, that's the most points Lockamy has scored all season. Another player making a difference was Cora Hadley, who dropped a double-double with 12 points and 17 rebounds.

Oak Grove smashed the offensive glass and finished the game with 19 offensive boards. That strong performance was nothing new for the team: they've now pulled down at least ten offensive rebounds in 13 consecutive contests.

Meanwhile, Foard lost to East Lincoln on the road by a 56-37 margin on Tuesday. While losing is never fun, the Tigers can't take it too hard given the team's big disadvantage in MaxPreps' North Carolina basketball rankings (they are ranked 201st, while the Mustangs are ranked 91st).

Oak Grove will need to focus on slowing down Gabby Sutcliffe, one of several Foard players who made an impact when they last played. She posted six points and five boards. The team also got some help courtesy of Macie Penland, who had three points along with six rebounds and three blocks.

Oak Grove's win bumped their record up to 18-7. As for Foard, their loss dropped their record down to 15-11.

Rebounding is likely to be a big factor in this contest: Oak Grove has been smashing the glass this season, having averaged 31.7 boards per game. However, it's not like Foard struggles in that department as they've been averaging 30 rebounds.
