Softball Recap: Marinette Comes Up Short

Marinette dropped their record down to 5-10 on Friday, which also ended the team's three-game streak of wins. They lost 14-1 to the Fox Valley Lutheran Foxes. The Marines were not able to make up for their loss to the Foxes from their previous meeting back in May of 2024.

As for Fox Valley Lutheran, their victory was their 14th straight on the road dating back to last season, which pushed their record up to 14-0. Those road wins came thanks in part to their pitching effort, having only surrendered 2.8 runs on average this season.

For Fox Valley Lutheran's part, Paige Leavitt and Madison Babcock made a big impact while hitting and pitching. Throwing, Leavitt tossed three innings while giving up no earned runs off four hits. Meanwhile, Babcock tossed two innings while giving up no earned runs or hits. She has been nothing but reliable on the mound: she hasn't given up more than one walk in five consecutive appearances. At bat, Leavitt went 2-for-3 with two RBI, while Babcock went 1-for-4 with one home run, three RBI, and two runs. Those two hits gave Leavitt a new career-high.

In other batting news, Olivia Fischer was incredible, going 2-for-3 with one home run, four RBI, and two runs. Those four RBI gave her a new career-high. Another player making a difference was Brianna Dahlke, who went 2-for-4 with one home run, three RBI, and two runs.

We've got plenty of inter-conference action coming up soon. Marinette will take on rival Clintonville at 4:30 p.m. on Tuesday. Meanwhile, Fox Valley Lutheran is set to challenge their familiar foe Waupaca at 4:30 p.m. on Monday.
