Bassett extends road losing streak to seven

Recap: Bassett Bengals vs. Martinsville Bulldogs

The Bassett Bengals's recent rough patch got a bit rougher on Wednesday after their fourth straight loss. They took a 58-52 hit to the loss column at the hands of Martinsville. While losing is never fun, Bassett can't take it too hard given the team's big disadvantage in MaxPreps' Virginia basketball rankings (they are ranked 356th, while Martinsville is ranked 162nd).

Martinsville got their win on the backs of several key players, but it was CJ Talley out in front who scored 14 points. Those 14 points set a new season-high mark for him. Another player making a difference was Caleb Joyce, who scored 13 points.

Bassett's loss was their seventh straight on the road dating back to last season, which bumped their record down to 3-9. As for Martinsville, their victory bumped their record up to 7-5.

Both teams are looking forward to the support of their home crowds in their upcoming games. Bassett will take on Tunstall at 7:00 p.m. on Friday. Tunstall is currently enjoying a perfect season and no doubt want to keep things rolling. As for Martinsville, they will look to defend their home court on Friday against Halifax County at 7:00 p.m. Halifax County has insisted on making their lastthree contests complete nail-biters, turning in a record of 0-3 during that stretch of close contests.
