Softball Game Preview: Swampscott Big Blue vs. Winthrop Vikings

The Swampscott Big Blue will venture away from home to challenge the Winthrop Vikings at 4:30 p.m. on Wednesday. Given that the two teams suffered a loss in their last games, they both have a little extra motivation heading into this contest.

Swampscott is coming in off a wild two-game stretch: after soaring to 11 runs last Monday, they were much more limited against Danvers on Wednesday. They lost 18-1 to the Falcons. The loss continues a trend for the Big Blue in their meetings with the Falcons: they've now lost nine in a row.

Meanwhile, Winthrop was not able to break out of their rough patch on Friday as the team picked up their third straight defeat. They fell 7-3 to Saugus. The home team had taken home the W every time these teams have met since May 10, 2023, but that streak is no more.

Amelia Spencer was cooking despite her team's loss, going a perfect 3-for-3 with one stolen base, two RBI, and one double. That double marked the first that she has hit this season.

Winthrop's loss dropped their record down to 3-9. As for Swampscott, their defeat dropped their record down to 5-5.

Swampscott took their victory against Winthrop in their previous matchup back in April by a conclusive 8-0 score. The rematch might be a little tougher for the Big Blue since the squad won't have the home-field advantage this time around. We'll see if the change in venue makes a difference.
