Baseball Recap: Elkhorn South Wins Going Away Against Kearney

Two teams were on the hunt for playoff glory, but only Elkhorn South walked away with it. Everything went their way against the Kearney Bearcats on Friday as they made off with a 10-2 victory. The win continues a trend for the Storm in their matchups with the Bearcats: they've now won three in a row.

Cal Cooper tossed a big game, not allowing a single earned run while striking out 11 over six innings pitched. Those 11 strikeouts gave him a new career-high.

At the plate, Elkhorn South saw six different players step up and record at least one hit. One of them was Brody Jindra, who fired off five runs, two triples, and two doubles while going 4-for-4. That's the most doubles Jindra has posted since back in March. Another was Cam Cooper, who went 1-for-4 with two runs and one double.

Elkhorn South was getting hits left and right and finished the game having posted a batting average of .387. They easily outclassed their opponents in that department as Kearney only posted a batting average of .200.

Elkhorn South's record now sits at 17-10. As for Kearney, with the loss, they broke their seven-game winning streak and moved their record to 22-10.

The two teams are set to take part in some playoff action in their next matches. Elkhorn South will take on Millard North at 7:00 p.m. on Monday. The last eight games the Mustangs have played have been within two runs, so don't be surprised if it's a close one. As for Kearney, they will face off against Papillion-LaVista South at 1:00 p.m. on Monday. The Titans' pitching crew has only allowed 3.2 runs per game this season, so the Bearcats' hitters will have their work cut out for them.
